Kārlis Lācis is a composer whose name in Latvia needs no further introduction. He is an artist with an impressive creative range—spanning academic and choral music, instrumental experiments, and music for theater productions, as well as jazz and pop music.

His body of work includes symphonies, popular and award-winning theater performances, collaborations with the finest Latvian musicians, appearances at Song Festivals, and chamber music concerts. He is known not only as a composer but also as a pianist and producer. Kārlis Lācis is a sought-after arranger who tirelessly explores new possibilities in arrangement and instrumentation.

Kārlis Lācis was born on September 21, 1977, in Tukums. He received his education at Kandava Children's Music School (piano class), Kandava High School (1984–1992), Jāzeps Mediņš Riga Music College in piano specialization (1992–1997), and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, where he studied piano under Juris Kalnciems (1997–2001, bachelor's degree; 2003–2005, master's degree), as well as composition under Juris Karlsons (2001–2002).

  • Winner of the Diena Cultural Award for the composition "Mirkļa izvēles vilinājums" for symphony orchestra (2006), the album and concert program "Ziedonis. Lācis. Sievietes" (2013), and the song cycle "Mežā" (2013).
